ace ventura

It was my first time at the Ventura Nationals. Or do they call it Primer Nationals? Or maybe that was the old name. Whatever. There's a quote from one of my favorite movies that pretty much sums up my experience in Ventura. You probably know that moment in From Dusk Til Dawn when Santanico Pandemonium is doing her thing and Seth Gecko, the character played by George Clooney, bursts out with his opinion on her performance: That's what I call a fuckin' show! Yeah, that's what it was.

Unfortunately, due to the hot and humid weather, my action behind the camera was somewhat slowed down, but there are still some pictures which I hope you enjoy. More photos...

dragmaster car party

It's a bright and clear Sunday morning in Fallbrook, California. Neighbor Art Schneider is walking his dog Mickey and enjoying the calm and fresh air which is soon going to be warmed up by a vigorous San Diego County summer sun. Just as he notices the murmuring and babbling of a crowd of people gathering on a tree-lined property nearby, the roar of a dragster engine exploding to life shatters the peaceful still. Dog Mickey's immediate try of barking back at that demonic noise quickly turns into a desperate whining. And Art Schneider, with one hand holding back Mickey's leash, is pressing his other hand to his heart, gasping a holy hell jeebus.

What Art didn't know: It's the Sunday of the annual car party at Dragmaster.

salt fever

One of the things I've always wanted to do while being on this planet is going to Bonneville. I'm still in awe and I'm actually still on the salt but here are some of my favorite sights so far.

king of the clubs 2013

A cold one in your left, a ketchup drippin hot dog in your right. And a blown gasser blasting down the old asphalt strip right in front of your eyes. Does that sound and smell like paradise to you? Well then see you next year at the King Of The Clubs in Barona. In the meantime, check this out and see what you missed. Or let the slideshow do the walking.

el mirage heat

El Mirage can become an addiction. Even though I'm not actively participating, I have to keep coming back. We usually get there the evening before, have some cold ones, soak up the atmosphere and camp on the lake bed. It's still as intriguing as the first time I went there. This time it was pretty damn hot, well that's probably what you'd expect from a mid-July weekend in the desert, so I wasn't too motivated to go overboard with taking photos. But the sight of an old lakester at the starting line with the wide open sky and the dusty lake bed as a backdrop never ceases to amaze me. This is where traditional hot rodding happens. This is where the magic is. If you think you'd like it too, check out the SCTA schedule. In the meantime, you can take a look at my gallery or enjoy the slideshow.
